Boingo Wireless, the world's leading wholesale Wi-Fi network aggregator, today announced a roaming agreement with StarHub, Singapore’s second largest info-communication company, to integrate StarHub’s wireless broadband locations into the Boingo® Roaming System.
The agreement covers all of StarHub’s approximately 200 locations, which include 35 The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations; homes of two of the world’s largest wireless hubs; all lounges, restaurants and public access areas in the two terminals at Singapore Changi Airport and all the convention areas and meeting rooms, mall restaurants and adjacent gardens at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Center. Each wireless hub covers a contiguous area of 180,000 square meters, equivalent to 28 soccer fields. StarHub is also a founding member of the Wireless Broadband Alliance, the world’s largest telecom-operator led industry alliance in the wireless broadband field.
The addition of the StarHub network, when fully integrated, will give Boingo customers access to nearly 500 hot spots throughout the island country — one of the most unwired countries in the Boingo network for its size. It joins a rapidly expanding Boingo Asian region network, which also includes key business hubs in China and Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
“Singapore is unique in the density of its Wi-Fi coverage nationwide and a model for other countries. Partnering with StarHub allows us to boost our network substantially with high-quality hot spots and give our customers all of the benefits of this network build out,” said Allen Pan, director, Asia Pacific for Boingo Wireless.
“Our partnership with Boingo signifies our continued commitment to enhance access to our wireless broadband hotspots. Boingo customers will now have quick and easy access to their information and communications services at easily recognizable locations in Singapore with a high-quality wireless connection. At the same time, we are also working through Boingo to extend our customers’ wireless broadband roaming reach to Boingo’s tens of thousands of hotspots with their StarHub wireless broadband account,” said Anil Nihalani, vice president of StarHub Mobile.
60,801 Reasons to Use Boingo
Boingo gives business travelers the best choice of Wi-Fi hot spots by combining over 60,000 locations from more than 140 leading Wi-Fi operators into one worldwide network. The program provides partners with access to this network, customized client software, and a full suite of back-office billing, roaming, mediation and clearinghouse services to allow them to offer their own Wi-Fi service quickly and cost effectively. To date, the company has announced Platform Services partnerships with BT Infonet, Earthlink, Fiberlink, Helio LLC, Nextel Communications, Verizon Business, MCI, and Telecom Italia.
