Software veteran becomes senior vice president of engineering; CTO Niels Jonker to focus on technology strategy Santa Monica, Calif. - December 22, 2003 - In her new role, Black oversees the ongoing development of Boingo®’s award-winning client software and its back-office billing and roaming technology. She reports to Dave Hagan, Boingo president and COO, and will have a close working relationship with Niels Jonker, Boingo chief technology officer. Jonker will focus on Boingo’s technology strategy, architecture, technology integration and solutions for carrier relationships and continues to report to Sky Dayton, Boingo founder and CEO. “Karen is a great addition because she’s a rare breed who is both deeply grounded in the technology and is a great leader. Her strengths give us management depth in this area, which frees Niels to focus completely on technology strategy, where he is best in the world,” Hagan said. “She inherits an engineering team whose innovation and quality has been central to Boingo’s growth, and I’m confident she will guide this group to continue to excel in the face of increasing complexity and new technology standards.” A technology veteran, Black has served in a variety of senior executive positions in operations and research and development for software companies including Intersperse Inc., Enfish Technologies, and Wright Strategies Inc. She was vice president and general manager at Symantec Corp. (formerly Peter Norton Group), where she led the development of the Norton Utilities product line. Black has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Napier College in Edinburgh, Scotland. About « back to Press Releases |
