SANTA MONICA, Calif. - May 11, 2004 - The award is based on the performance of the Boingo service in a comparison of nine Wi-Fi services vendors that was published in the magazine's May 15, 2003 issue. Network Computing editors gave Boingo high marks for its "impressive number of roaming partners," its worldwide hot spot network and the simplicity of its Wi-Fi client software. "The key to the success of the Boingo service has been our emphasis on usability and building the largest possible wireless roaming footprint, because we know these are the two key factors to the mass adoption of Wi-Fi services," said Dave Hagan, Boingo president and chief operating officer. "It is especially gratifying to win this award because simplicity and roaming were also key criteria for Network Computing reviewers." The award was presented on May 10, 2004 during a special ceremony as part of the Networld+Interop trade show in Las Vegas, NV, and the results printed in the magazine's current issue which is available online at www.networkcomputing.com. "The Well-Connected Awards are the only industry awards given by technologists based on real-world product testing and evaluation. We view all products, technologies and services from the same perspective as our readers — our peers—do," said Fritz Nelson, VP and Group Publisher of Network Computing Enterprise Architecture Group. "This is an important distinction from any other award program — the products selected in the Well-Connected Awards are unique because they have been tested over an enterprise by our editors themselves. They are truly innovative solutions that work." Since the review was published, Boingo's network has grown substantially and now includes nearly 7,000 hot spots under contract worldwide and partnerships with 75 roaming partners. Through its Boingo® Platform Services offering, the company leverages this network, its award-winning end-user software and its back-end systems for authentication, roaming, billing, fulfillment and clearinghouse services to provide a turnkey Wi-Fi service offering for telecommunications, Internet and managed services providers. Current Platform Services partners include Earthlink, Fiberlink, Infonet Services Corp., MCI, and Telecom Italia.
